Real Name:
Thomas John Woodward
Profile:
Born June 7, 1940, Pontypridd, Wales. "Jones The Voice" first recorded for Decca in 1964, and scored the first of many trans-atlantic hits with "It's Not Unusual". By the end of the 1960s, Jones was a regular performer at Las Vegas, and had his own networked US TV show, "This Is Tom Jones". Though his record sales tailed off during the 1970s, he remained a huge draw as a live performer right through the 70s and 80s (and up to the present day, indeed.) In 1987, he returned to the UK and quickly re-established himself as a recording artist when the typically bombastic "A Boy From Nowhere" (from the unstaged musical "Matador") reached number 2, and the following year made his first real foray into dance music as we know it by collaborating with The Art Of Noise on "Kiss". From there, he has continued to include dance-styled material in his repertoire, alongside a diverse range of other musical styles. Although he remains a thoroughly old-fashioned entertainer whose present popularity is perhaps predicated as much on kitsch value as anything else, he also - in his sixties - fully retains the vocal ability that made him a star in the first place.

Profile:
Vocal duo that consisted of Sam Moore and Dave Prater. Formed in 1961 in Miami, Florida, they only enjoyed minor success until the duo was coupled with the songwriting team of Isaac Hayes and David Porter in 1965. The best known hits from this period are probably Hold On, I'm Coming (1966) and Soul Man (1967). Sam & Dave were renowned for their exciting stage performance. In the late 1970's Dan Aykroyd and John Belushi would be very much inspired by that stage performance when they did their Blues Brothers act.Sam & Dave disbanded in 1971, but reunited shortly several times during the 1970's and 1980's. They were inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 1992.

Back cover:
"He was definately the greatest. The sound of Soul was his sound and influenced American pop music in a fundamental way. Now, Otis Redding is dead. Gone on the top of his career after he had dethroned Elvis Presley as pop singer no.1 in 1967. Whatever Otis Redding did, it was an emotional, crescending explosion, but always he controled himself and his audience. There is no other artist to handle listeners like he did, no other singer to make his fans move in extasy in such a short time. Even recordings from his earlier days - as this album - are already Soul or lead to his style. We miss Otis Redding.
"Little" Joe Curtis strives to achieve the popularity of this great Soul artist. Listen to him and you'll be sure, he'll make it. His first jobs this New Orleans boy took in Bourbon street saloons at the age of 14, playing the piano as well as cleaning the glasses. As popular music became a blend of "pops, blues and spirituals", Joe formed his own group and went to tour. Educated in a Baptist family by a church piano playing mother, soul music is basicly his music, today he holds promise of being a great soul act."
