B6 No Idiot Dub 4:36
Real Name:
Osbourne Ruddock
Profile:
Born January 28th 1941, King Tubby is known primarily for his influence on the development of dub in the 1960s. In the 1950s, King Tubby's musical career began with the sound systems, set up on the streets of Kingston and playing dance music for the people. As a radio repairman, Tubby soon became quite helpful at most of the sound systems around.
Tubby began working with Arthur "Duke" Reid in 1968. At Treasure Isle, a studio, Tubby began making remixes of hit songs, usually by simply removing the vocals. In time, Tubby (and others) began shifting the emphasis in the instrumentals, adding sounds and removing others and adding various special effects, like echoes. By 1971, Tubby's soundsystem was one of the most popular in Kingston and he decided to open a studio of his own. His remixes soon proved enormously popular, and he became one of the biggest celebrities in Jamaica.
During the 1970s, Tubby's work in the studio gave rise to modern dub music. He had a long string of hit songs, and worked as a producer for some of Jamaica's most popular artists, including Lee Perry, Bunny Lee, Augustus Pablo and Yabby You. In 1973, he began recording vocals to put along the instrumentals. By the later part of the decade though, King Tubby had mostly retired from music, still occasionally recording remixes and tutoring a new generation of artists, including King Jammy and Scientist.
In the 1980s, he focused on production for Anthony Red Rose, Sugar Minott and other popular musicians, for his Firehouse group of labels. He was shot and killed by unknown persons, probably in a robbery attempt, in 1989, February 06th.

Profile:
Funk group that started life in the early 1970s in Southern California, They formed out of the ashes of an earlier R&B covers group, The Creators (who also recorded as The Romeos and Senor Soul), initially naming themselves Nightshift before producer Jerry Goldstein discovered them and gave them a more distinctive name.
Their initial recordings were collaborations with Eric Burdon of English group The Animals, notably their first album 'Eric Burdon Declares "War". They later signed to United Artists and began releasing material on their own. Their first album was not a big success but their popularity was growing and later albums were very successful. They peaked commercially in the mid-70s with their Number 1 hit 'Low Rider'.
Things started to go downhill for the group in the late 70s when bassist B.B. Dickerson left and another member, Charles Miller, was murdered. Various line-up changes followed but the original magic was lost and the group were not as successful, eventually becoming just a touring act.
A new generation has since discovered the music of War as they have been heavily sampled by hip-hop artists. The band continues to tour, although with only one of the original members.
The other original members now play as the "Original Lowriders" however due to legal restrictions they are not even allowed to advertise themselves as former members of the band.

Profile:
Founded by guitarist Rise Kagona in April 1980 and fronted by Biggie Tembo, Bhundu Boys were a hugely successful Zimbabwean guitar/rock/folk band.
The band is named after the previous occupation of their charismatic frontman, songwriter and lead singer: "bhundu boys" (bhundu = bush) were largely underage runners/messengers for the guerillas during the liberation struggle at the time.
The band scored an unprecendented four number-one singles between 1981 and 1984, which got the attention of the international media. Travelling to Scotland in 1986 and championed and promoted by the likes of Elvis Costello, John Peel, Andy Kershaw, and Eric Clapton, the band even got as far as opening for Madonna at Wembley Stadium on three nights in 1987.
However, their new and more westernised sound didn't find as much favour with audiences as their past offerings, and following some disapproved shenanigans by Biggie Tembo and his subsequent firing from the band in 1990 and then the deaths of other members, the group slowly lost momentum and disappeared from the scene.
In 2001, a compilation of songs recorded at Harare's Shed Studios between 1982 and 1986 titled "The Shed Sessions" was released.
